For the eastern North Pacific...east of 140 degrees west longitude:
The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on Hurricane
Sergio, located almost 1000 miles west-southwest of the southern
tip of the Baja California peninsula.
1. An area of low pressure located just offshore from El Salvador is
producing a cluster of showers and thunderstorms that extend along
and just off the coast from Guatemala to Nicaragua. This system is
expected to drift northward and move inland over Central America
later today, which will end the opportunity for tropical cyclone
formation. Regardless of development, heavy rains will continue
across western Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, and
Guatemala through early next week, resulting in flash floods and
mudslides in mountainous areas of those countries.
