For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:

1. A surface trough interacting with an upper-level low continues to
produce an elongated area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms
more than 500 miles southwest of the Azores.  Environmental
conditions are expected to be conducive for a non-tropical low to
form during the next day or so. The system could gradually acquire
some subtropical characteristics by the middle of next week while it
moves slowly northeastward.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...10 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...medium...40 percent.
