DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 200 PM PDT (2100 UTC), the center of Hurricane Fernanda was
located near latitude 11.2 North, longitude 116.0 West. Fernanda is
moving toward the west near 12 mph (19 km/h), and a general motion
toward the west is expected during the next 48 hour.
Fernanda is rapidly intensifying and maximum sustained winds have
increased to near 80 mph (130 km/h) with higher gusts. Additional
rapid strengthening is forecast, and Fernanda is likely to become a
major hurricane by Friday.
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 15 miles (30 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 60 miles
(95 km).
The estimated minimum central pressure is 990 mb (29.24 inches).
