Interests in extreme southern Baja California Sur should monitor
the progress of Norma.


DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 900 AM MDT (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Norma was
located near latitude 17.2 North, longitude 109.5 West.  Norma is
moving toward the north near 5 mph (7 km/h), and this general motion
at an even slower forward speed is expected to continue through
early Saturday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts.
Strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and Norma could
become a hurricane by late Friday.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles (110 km)
from the center.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 1004 mb (29.65 inches).
