DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK
----------------------
At 800 PM PDT (0300 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Karina was 
located near latitude 14.2 North, longitude 116.3 West. Karina is 
moving toward the northwest near 12 mph (19 km/h), and this general 
motion is expected to continue over the next day or so, followed by 
a more westward turn.
 
Maximum sustained winds are near 65 mph (100 km/h) with higher 
gusts. Strengthening is forecast during the next several days. 
Karina is forecast to become a hurricane by early Saturday and could 
become a major hurricane early next week.
 
Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 230 miles (370 km)
from the center.
 
The estimated minimum central pressure is 988 mb (29.18 inches).
 
 
HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND

SURF:  Swells generated by Karina will begin to affect portions of
the coast of southwest Mexico and the Baja California Peninsula
this weekend.  These swells are likely to cause life-threatening
surf and rip current conditions. Please consult products from your
local weather office.
