Tropical Weather Discussion
NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL
1605 UTC Fri Jun 12 2026
Tropical Weather Discussion for the eastern Pacific Ocean from
03.4S to 30N, east of 120W including the Gulf of California, and
from the Equator to 30N, between 120W and 140W. The following
information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations,
radar, and meteorological analysis.
Based on 1200 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through
1430 UTC.
...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH...
The monsoon trough extends from 10N85W to 17N99W to 08N120W to
09N140W. Scattered moderate and isolated strong convection is
noted from 03N to 15N between 89W and 100W, and from 01N to 10N
between 110W and 140W.
...OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO...
A weak pressure gradient prevails across the area. With the weak
pressure gradient, light to gentle winds prevail over the open
waters off Mexico. Gentle to locally moderate winds are in the
Gulf of California as well as off Cabo San Lucas. Seas are in the
5-7 ft range over the open waters off Mexico, and 3 ft or less
in the Gulf of California.
For the forecast, light to gentle winds will prevail across the
waters of Baja California. Gentle to moderate, locally fresh, SW
to S winds are expected inside the Gulf of California and near
the tip of Baja California Sur. Gentle to locally moderate NW to
W winds will dominate the waters between Cabo Corrientes and
Tehunatepec through Fri, then weaken into the weekend.
....OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA,
AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR...
Gentle to moderate SE winds prevail in the Gulf of Papagayo and
Gulf of Panama. Light to gentle variable winds are found
elsewhere. Seas are in the 5-7 ft range between the Galapagos
Islands and Colombia, reaching 8 ft south of the Galapagos
Islands. Elsewhere, seas are in the 4-6 ft range.
For the forecast, gentle to moderate winds and moderate seas
will prevail across the offshore waters into the weekend, except
locally rough seas in new southerly swell near the Galapagos
Islands today. Winds may pulse to moderate to locally fresh in
diurnal offshore flow in the immediate Gulf of Papagayo and near
the Gulf of Guayaquil during the upcoming weekend into early next
week.
...REMAINDER OF THE AREA...
A ridge of high pressure enters the NW waters near 30N131W and
extends SE to near 21N133W. Broad troughing prevails east of
133W. The pressure gradient between the area of high pressure,
and broad troughing is supporting moderate to fresh winds N of
28N and W of 130W. Gentle to moderate winds are N of the monsoon
trough to near 13N and W of 128W. Light to gentle winds are
elsewhere N of the monsoon trough. Moderate to fresh winds are S
of the monsoon trough and W of 125W, and gentle to moderate
elsewhere S of the monsoon trough. Northerly swell is bringing
rough seas over the waters N of 28N between 128W and 135W.
Mainly moderate seas are found elsewhere, locally rough south of
the equator.
For the forecast, the pressure gradient will loosen W of the
elongated troughing, with winds diminishing there slightly
through today. Winds will then be moderate or weaker across the
entire open waters, except at least moderate to fresh near
transient embedded low pressure areas along western portion of
the monsoon trough. Northerly swells mixed with the longer period
southerly swells with seas of 7-9 ft will linger across the
N-central waters through tonight before decaying. Otherwise,
moderate seas will dominate the open waters, locally rough in the
S-central waters through Sat, as well as near any of the
embedded lows within the monsoon trough.
