DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK

At 500 AM HST (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Lowell was
located near latitude 12.5 North, longitude 132.8 West. Lowell is
moving toward the north-northwest near 5 mph (7 km/h). A turn
toward the west is expected by tomorrow, with that motion
continuing into early next week.
 
Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph (75 km/h) with higher gusts. 
Strengthening is likely during the next several days, and Lowell is 
forecast to become a hurricane over the weekend.
 
Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 80 miles (130 km)
from the center.
 
The estimated minimum central pressure is 1003 mb (29.62 inches).
