DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK

At 800 PM MST (0300 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Karina was
located near latitude 11.9 North, longitude 112.7 West. Karina is
moving toward the west-northwest near 13 mph (20 km/h) and this
general motion is expected to continue over the next several days.
 
Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 50 mph (85 km/h) 
with higher gusts. Strengthening is expected to continue as Karina 
is forecast to become a hurricane over the weekend.
 
Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 205 miles (335 km)
from the center.
 
The estimated minimum central pressure is 1000 mb (29.53 inches).
 
 
HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND

SURF:  Swells generated by Tropical Storm Karina will begin to
affect portions of the coast of southwest Mexico and the Baja
California Peninsula this weekend.  These swells are likely to cause
life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.  Please consult
