DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK

At 200 AM MST (0900 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Karina was
located near latitude 12.7 North, longitude 114.3 West. Karina is
moving toward the northwest near 13 mph (20 km/h) and this
general motion is expected to continue over the next couple of days 
followed by a turn more westward. 
 
Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher gusts. 
Strengthening is forecast and Karina is likely to become a hurricane 
over the weekend. 
 
Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 230 miles (370 km)
from the center.
 
The estimated minimum central pressure is 999 mb (29.50 inches).
 
 
HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND

SURF:  Swells generated by Tropical Storm Karina will begin to
affect portions of the coast of southwest Mexico and the Baja
California Peninsula this weekend.  These swells are likely to cause
life-threatening surf and rip current conditions. Please consult
