DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK

At 500 PM HST (0300 UTC), the center of Hurricane Karina was located
near latitude 18.3 North, longitude 130.8 West. Karina is moving
toward the west near 12 mph (19 km/h) and a westward to
west-northwestward motion is expected during the next few days.
 
Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 140 mph (220 km/h) 
with higher gusts.  Karina is a category 4 hurricane on the 
Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Gradual weakening is expected 
during the next several days.
 
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 35 miles (55 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 125 miles
(205 km).
 
The estimated minimum central pressure is 946 mb (27.94 inches).
