DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 1100 PM HST (0900 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Lowell was located near latitude 29.2 North, longitude 166.2 West. Lowell is moving toward the west near 13 mph (20 km/h). A general westward motion is forecast to continue for the next day or so. Then, the system's forward motion is expected to slow late this week as it turns northwestward. Satellite-derived wind data indicate that maximum sustained winds are near 65 mph (100 km/h) with higher gusts. Gradual weakening is expected during the next day or so, but Lowell is forecast to remain a tropical storm for the next few days. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 195 miles (315 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 993 mb (29.33 inches).
