DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK
----------------------
At 1100 PM HST (0900 UTC), the center of Hurricane Lala was located
near latitude 26.6 North, longitude 171.7 West. Lala is moving
toward the north-northeast near 9 mph (15 km/h), and this motion is
expected to continue through early Friday. A turn toward the north 
is expected later on Friday, followed by a northwestward motion 
beginning Friday night and continuing through early next week. On 
the forecast track, the center of Lala will continue moving farther 
away from the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument.
 
Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 100 mph (155 km/h) 
with higher gusts.  Some fluctuations in intensity are possible 
over the next day or so, but overall gradual weakening is expected 
through early next week. Lala is forecast to remain a hurricane 
through Saturday.
 
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles (75 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 150 miles
(240 km).
 
The estimated minimum central pressure is 971 mb (28.68 inches).
 
 
HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND
----------------------
WIND: Hurricane conditions, especially in gusts, are expected to 
continue within the Hurricane Warning area through Friday. Tropical 
storm conditions are occurring within the Tropical Storm Warning 
area and will persist into Friday.
 
SURF: Large surf associated with Lala will affect the
Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument for the next couple of
days. These large waves will likely inundate some of the low-lying
atolls, especially from French Frigate Shoals to Maro Reef.
