Hurricane Lowell Special Discussion Number 22
NWS Central Pacific Hurricane Center Honolulu HI EP122026
Issued by NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL
200 PM HST Tue Sep 01 2026

The satellite presentation of Lowell has improved the last several
hours. A deep ring of cold convection wraps around a small eye
feature that is becoming more evident in infrared and satellite
imagery. Objective intensity estimates have been steadily increasing
the last few hours. The initial intensity has been raised to 110 kt,
making Lowell a major category 3 hurricane, and is rapidly
intensifying.

Lowell remains within a favorable environment with warm sea surface
temperatures, and low wind shear. Lowell is likely to continue
strengthening, and remain a major hurricane throughout the
remainder of the forecast period. The latest NHC intensity forecast
was adjusted upward, given the recent satellite trends and current
conditions.

There were no changes made to the track forecast with this advisory,
with the west-northwestward to westward motion anticipated to
continue over the next few days.

Key Messages:

1. Interests in the Hawaiian Islands should continue to closely
monitor the progress of Hurricane Lowell.
