Tropical Storm Lala Discussion Number 58
NWS Central Pacific Hurricane Center Honolulu HI CP012026
Issued by NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL
1100 AM HST Wed Aug 26 2026

Satellite imagery reveals little change in Lala’s convective
structure over the last couple of hours. Subjective Dvorak intensity
estimates from HFO and JTWC at 1800 UTC were 35 and 30 kt,
respectively, while objective estimates ranged from 45-50 kt. Given
the relatively steady nature of Lala’s appearance on satellite
imagery since the last advisory, the initial intensity was held at
40 kt.

Lala’s speed remains slow, with an initial motion estimate of 320/4
kt. A high pressure ridge centered to the storm’s east-northeast
will drive a slow storm motion toward the north-northwest, before
the system gradually turns more westward as it moves away from the
ridge’s influence. Little change was made to the track forecast from
the last advisory package, as models generally exhibited good
agreement in the track while Lala remains tropical.

With the storm moving over gradually decreasing SSTs and
increasing vertical wind shear, Lala is expected to become a
post-tropical remnant low within the next 48 hours, right when the
system is forecast to cross the international dateline. Changes to
the intensity forecast were minimal, with the main adjustment being
to show an earlier dissipation for Lala at 96 hours. This is sooner
than the previous forecast, as global models generally depict the
system becoming an open trough over the weekend.
