Tropical Storm Lala Discussion Number 60
NWS Central Pacific Hurricane Center Honolulu HI CP012026
Issued by NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL
1100 PM HST Wed Aug 26 2026

Mid-level dry air is beginning to wrap around the core of Lala,
although a small area of deep convection persists near the center.
An earlier AMSR-2 microwave pass indicated that moderate westerly
wind shear is starting to take its toll, with a more defined
circulation to the north and east of the center, and less definition
on the southern and western sides. Subjective Dvorak intensity
estimates from PHFO and JTWC were 2.0/30 kt, while objective
intensity estimates from UW-CIMSS range from 47-55 kt. The initial
intensity is maintained at 40 kt for this advisory.

Lala is moving northward around 5 kt, steered by a ridge of high
pressure centered to the northeast of the storm. A northward to
northwestward motion is expected over the next 24 h, followed by a
turn toward the west-northwest as Lala approaches and crosses the
International Date Line. Increasing wind shear and drier mid-level
air will support gradual weakening over the next couple of days, and
Lala may struggle to sustain deep, organized convection by late
Thursday night or early Friday morning. The latest NHC track
forecast has been shifted slightly to the right of the previous
forecast and calls for Lala to become a post-tropical low by 36 h.
The remnants of Lala should then gradually spin down and degenerate
into a trough within about 3 days.
