DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK
----------------------
At 800 AM PDT (1500 UTC), the eye of Hurricane Linda was located
near latitude 18.8 North, longitude 116.1 West.  Linda is moving
toward the west-northwest near 13 mph (20 km/h).  A turn toward 
the west is anticipated tonight, followed by a turn toward the
west-southwest early next week.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 130 mph (215 km/h) 
with higher gusts.  Linda is a category 4 hurricane on the 
Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale.  Some fluctuations in
intensity are possible through the afternoon, however, a steady
weakening trend is forecast to commence by tonight.
 
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 115 miles
(185 km).
 
The estimated minimum central pressure is 950 mb (28.06 inches).
  
 
HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND
----------------------
SURF:  Swells generated by Linda are expected to affect portions of
the coast of southwestern Mexico and the southern and western coast
of Baja California Sur over the next few days.  These swells are
likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
