CHANGES WITH THIS ADVISORY:
The Tropical Storm Watch for portions of the Papahanaumokuakea
Marine Monument from Lisianski Island to Pearl and Hermes Atoll has
been discontinued.
 
SUMMARY OF WATCHES AND WARNINGS IN EFFECT:
 
A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for...
* Kure Atoll and Midway Atoll and waters between Midway Atoll and
Pearl and Hermes Atoll.
 
A Tropical Storm Watch means that tropical storm conditions are
possible across the watch area within 48 hours.
 
For storm information specific to your area, please monitor
products issued by the National Weather Service office in
Honolulu Hawaii.
 
 
DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK
----------------------
At 1100 AM HST (2100 UTC), the center of Hurricane Hector was
located near latitude 23.7 North, longitude 175.7 West. Hector is
moving toward the west-northwest near 17 mph (28 km/h) and this
motion is expected to expected to continue today, followed by a
turn toward the west-northwest tonight and Monday. 
 
Maximum sustained winds are near 75 mph (120 km/h) with higher
gusts.  Hector is forecast to weaken to a tropical storm later
today or tonight. 
 
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 10 miles (20 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 85 miles
(140 km).
 
The estimated minimum central pressure is 988 mb (29.18 inches).
 
 
HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND
----------------------
SURF:  Hector is producing swell that will affect portions of the
Northwestern Hawaiian Islands over the next couple of days. The
large southeast seas and swells will peak between Maro Reef and
Lisianski Island today, and across Pearl and Hermes, Midway Atoll
and Kure Atoll late today through Monday.
 
WIND:  Tropical Storm conditions are possible across Pearl and
Hermes Atoll later today and tonight, and are possible across Kure
Atoll and Midway Atoll tonight and Monday.
