DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 200 PM PDT (2100 UTC), the center of Hurricane Fernanda was
located near latitude 12.7 North, longitude 128.4 West.  Fernanda is
moving toward the west-northwest near 12 mph (19 km/h), and this
general heading with a decrease in forward speed is expected during
the next couple of days.

Maximum sustained winds are near 125 mph (205 km/h) with higher
gusts.  Fernanda is a category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson
Hurricane Wind Scale.  Little change in strength is expected
through tonight, but a gradual weakening is expected on Monday.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 30 miles (45 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 105 miles
(165 km).

The estimated minimum central pressure is 957 mb (28.26 inches).
