DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 200 AM PDT (0900 UTC), the eye of Hurricane Lester was located
near latitude 17.7 North, longitude 137.5 West. Lester is moving
toward the west near 12 mph (19 km/h).  The hurricanes should move
toward the west or west-northwest at about the same forward speed
over the next two days.

Maximum sustained winds are near 140 mph (220 km/h) with higher
gusts.  Lester is a category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson
Hurricane Wind Scale.  Some weakening is forecast during the next 48
hours, though Lester is anticipated to remain a strong hurricane.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 35 miles (55 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90 miles
(150 km).

The estimated minimum central pressure is 948 mb (28.00 inches).
