DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 800 AM PDT (1500 UTC), the eye of Hurricane Lester was located
near latitude 18.0 North, longitude 118.4 West.  Lester is moving
toward the west near 9 mph (15 km/h).  A nearly due-west motion at
a faster forward speed is expected during the next couple of days.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 90 mph (150 km/h)
with higher gusts.  Some additional strengthening is possible
during the next day or so.  Weakening could begin after that time.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90 miles
(150 km).

The estimated minimum central pressure is 977 mb (28.85 inches).
