DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 800 AM PDT (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Lester was
located near latitude 17.1 North, longitude 115.0 West.  Lester is
moving toward the west near 7 mph (11 km/h).  A westward motion with
some increase in forward speed is expected during the next couple
of days.

Maximum sustained winds remain near 60 mph (95 km/h) with higher
gusts.  Strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and
Lester is expected to become a hurricane tonight or Saturday.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 80 miles (130 km)
from the center.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 1000 mb (29.53 inches).
