DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 800 AM PDT (1500 UTC), the eye of Hurricane Darby was located
near latitude 16.5 North, longitude 120.5 West.  Darby is moving
toward the west-northwest near 9 mph (15 km/h), and this motion is
expected to continue through Saturday.  A turn back toward the west
is forecast by early Sunday.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 100 mph (155 km/h)
with higher gusts.  Little change in strength is expected through
tonight, but weakening is forecast to begin on Saturday.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 30 miles (45 km) from the
center, and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 115
miles (185 km).

The estimated minimum central pressure is 975 mb (28.80 inches).
