AT 8 AM PDT...1500Z...THE GOVERNMENT OF MEXICO HAS EXTENDED THE
HURRICANE WARNING NORTHWARD ALONG THE EAST COAST OF THE BAJA
CALIFORNIA PENINSULA TO BAHIA SAN JUAN BAUTISTA AND ALSO NORTHWARD
ALONG THE COAST MAINLAND MEXICO TO BAHIA KINO.
 
A HURRICANE WARNING IS NOW IN EFFECT FOR SOUTHERN BAJA CALIFORNIA
FROM BAHIA MAGDALENA SOUTHWARD ON THE WEST COAST AND FROM BAHIA SAN
JUAN BAUTISTA SOUTHWARD ON THE EAST COAST...AND FOR THE COAST OF
MAINLAND MEXICO FROM BAHIA KINO TO TOPOLOBAMPO.  PREPARATIONS TO
PROTECT LIFE AND PROPERTY SHOULD BE RUSHED TO COMPLETION.
 
A HURRICANE WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR SOUTHERN BAJA CALIFORNIA
FROM PUNTA ABREOJOS TO BAHIA MAGDALENA ON THE WEST COAST...AND FOR
THE COAST OF MAINLAND MEXICO FROM SOUTH OF TOPOLOBAMPO TO ALTATA.

SOME OF THE SOUTHERNMOST WATCHES AND WARNINGS WILL LIKELY BE LOWERED
LATER TODAY.
 
AT 11 AM PDT...1800Z...THE CENTER OF HURRICANE MARTY WAS LOCATED
NEAR LATITUDE 25.4 NORTH...LONGITUDE 110.2 WEST.  THIS POSITION IS
OVER THE SOUTHERN GULF OF CALIFORNIA AND ABOUT 80 MILES...125 KM...
WEST-SOUTHWEST OF LOS MOCHIS MEXICO.
 
MARTY IS MOVING TOWARD THE NORTH NEAR 18 MPH ...309 KM/HR...AND THIS
MOTION IS EXPECTED TO MOVE THE HURRICANE OVER MAINLAND MEXICO DURING
THE NEXT 24 HOURS.
 
MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE ESTIMATED NEAR  80 MPH...130 KM/HR...
WITH HIGHER GUSTS.  CONTINUED SLOW WEAKENING IS FORECAST TODAY.
 
HURRICANE FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO  25 MILES... 35 KM...
FROM THE CENTER...AND TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP
TO 145 MILES...230 KM.
 
THE ESTIMATED MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE IS  982 MB...28.98 INCHES.
 
STORM SURGE FLOODING OF 4 TO 8 FEET ABOVE NORMAL TIDE LEVELS IS
LIKELY ALONG THE COAST IN THE WARNING AREA NEAR WHERE THE
HURRICANE WINDS ARE BLOWING ONSHORE.  THIS FLOODING MAY BE
ACCOMPANIED BY LARGE AND DANGEROUS BATTERING WAVES.
 
RAINFALL TOTALS OF 4 TO 8 INCHES...WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS...
ARE LIKELY NEAR THE PATH OF THE HURRICANE.  THESE RAINS COULD CAUSE
LIFE-THREATENING FLASH FLOODS AND MUD SLIDES.

TOWARD...NORTH NEAR 18 MPH.  MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS... 80 MPH.
