DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 200 PM PDT (2100 UTC), the center of Hurricane Fernanda was
located near latitude 10.7 North, longitude 119.7 West. Fernanda is
moving toward the west near 12 mph (19 km/h) and a westward to
west-northwestward motion is expected over the next 48 hours.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 130 mph (215 km/h)
with higher gusts.  Fernanda is a category 4 hurricane on the
Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale.  Some additional strengthening
is forecast during the next day or so.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 30 miles (45 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles
(110 km).

The estimated minimum central pressure is 960 mb (28.35 inches).
