DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK

At 500 AM HST (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Lowell was
located near latitude 29.1 North, longitude 167.7 West. Lowell is
moving toward the west near 15 mph (24 km/h). A general westward
motion is forecast to continue for the next day or so. Then, the
system is expected to slow down and turn northeastward this weekend.
Maximum sustained winds are near 60 mph (95 km/h) with higher gusts.
Gradual weakening is expected during the next day or so, but Lowell
is forecast to remain a tropical storm for the next few days.
Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 185 miles (295 km)
from the center.
The estimated minimum central pressure is 988 mb (29.18 inches).
