DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 200 AM PDT (0900 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Ulika was located near latitude 16.0 North, longitude 139.1 West. Ulika is moving toward the north-northwest near 6 mph (9 km/h). A turn toward the northwest is expected later today, followed by a turn toward the west on Friday. On the forecast track, Ulika is forecast to move into the Central Pacific Hurricane Center's area of responsibility later today. Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher gusts. Weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and Ulika is expected to become a tropical depression tonight. The cyclone could then become a remnant low on Friday. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 35 miles (55 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1001 mb (29.56 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- None.
