DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 800 AM PDT (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Madeline was
located near latitude 15.2 North, longitude 138.5 West.  Madeline is
moving toward the northwest near 9 mph (15 km/h), and this general
motion is expected to continue for the next couple of days.  On the
forecast track Madeline will move into the central North Pacific
basin tonight.

Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher gusts.
Some strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and
Madeline is expected to become a hurricane by Sunday night.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 60 miles (95 km)
from the center.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 1000 mb (29.53 inches).
