DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 300 AM MDT (0900 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Lester was
located near latitude 16.9 North, longitude 114.5 West. Lester is
moving toward the west near 7 mph (11 km/h).  A turn toward the
west-northwest should occur later today, followed by a turn back to
the west tonight or Saturday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 60 mph (95 km/h) with higher gusts.
Some strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and Lester
could become a hurricane tonight or on Saturday.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 80 miles (130 km)
from the center.  The Mexican automated station on Isla Clarion
recently reported a wind gust of 49 mph (79 km/h).

The estimated minimum central pressure is 1000 mb (29.53 inches).
