DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK
----------------------
At 500 AM HST (1500 UTC), the center of Hurricane Fausto was located
near latitude 19.9 North, longitude 141.1 West. Fausto is moving
toward the west near 14 mph (22 km/h), and this general motion is
expected to continue for the next several days.

Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 85 mph (140 km/h)
with higher gusts. Gradual weakening is forecast during the next
several days.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles (75 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 175 miles
(280 km).

The estimated minimum central pressure is 977 mb (28.85 inches).

SURF: Surf generated by Fausto is expected to begin building across
east-facing shores of the eastern end of Hawaii later today,
spreading westward tonight into Monday, and continue building
through Tuesday as Fausto approaches and moves into the area. These
swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current
conditions. Please consult products from your local weather office.
