SUMMARY OF 400 PM CDT...2100 UTC...INFORMATION ---------------------------------------------- LOCATION...14.8N 102.0W ABOUT 325 MI...525 KM SSE OF MANZANILLO MEXICO MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS...50 MPH...85 KM/H PRESENT MOVEMENT...N OR 360 DEGREES AT 5 MPH...7 KM/H MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE...1000 MB...29.53 INCHES WATCHES AND WARNINGS -------------------- There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect. DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 400 PM CDT (2100 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Blas was located near latitude 14.8 North, longitude 102.0 West. Blas is moving toward the north near 5 mph (7 km/h) and Blas should turn to the northwest overnight and to the west-northwest by late Wednesday. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher gusts. Blas is expected to become a hurricane tomorrow with further strengthening possible on Thursday. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles (110 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1000 mb (29.53 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- SURF: Swells generated by Blas are expected to reach the coast of southwestern Mexico late today. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions. Please consult products from your local weather office.
