DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 500 AM HST (1500 UTC), the eye of Hurricane Felicia was located near latitude 14.6 North, longitude 124.6 West. Felicia is moving toward the west near 8 mph (13 km/h), and this general motion is forecast to continue today. A slight turn toward the west-northwest is expected tonight and Sunday, followed by a turn back toward the west late Sunday and Monday. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 145 mph (230 km/h) with higher gusts. Felicia is a strong category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Fluctuations in intensity are possible today, and slight weakening is forecast by the end of the weekend. A faster rate of weakening is expected by early next week. Felicia is a small hurricane. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 15 miles (30 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles (75 km). The estimated minimum central pressure is 947 mb (27.97 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- None.
