A Tornado Watch is posted across portions of eastern South Carolina and southeastern North Carolina. For storm information specific to your area, including possible inland watches and warnings, please monitor products issued by your local National Weather Service forecast office. DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 500 PM EDT (2100 UTC), the center of Post-Tropical Cyclone Sally was located near latitude 34.1 North, longitude 81.0 West. The post-tropical cyclone is moving toward the east-northeast near 24 mph (39 km/h) and this motion is expected to continue with a slow increase in forward speed. Maximum sustained winds are near 15 mph (30 km/h) with higher gusts. Increased change in strength is forecast during the next 48 hours as the system moves back over the open Atlantic after 24 hours, and starts to restrengthen as a non-tropical/extratropical cyclone. HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- RAINFALL/FLOODING: Sally is expected to deposit 2 to 4 inches, with isolated total amounts of 8 inches, in and near the Carolinas and southern Virginia. Widespread flash flooding and minor to moderate river flooding is likely. TORNADOES: Scattered tornadoes may occur across the Eastern Carolinas through this evening.
