SUMMARY OF 1100 AM HST...2100 UTC...INFORMATION ----------------------------------------------- LOCATION...14.3N 127.5W ABOUT 1295 MI...2085 KM WSW OF THE SOUTHERN TIP OF BAJA CALIFORNIA ABOUT 1860 MI...2990 KM E OF HILO HAWAII MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS...140 MPH...220 KM/H PRESENT MOVEMENT...WNW OR 300 DEGREES AT 12 MPH...19 KM/H MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE...941 MB...27.79 INCHES WATCHES AND WARNINGS -------------------- There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect. DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 1100 AM HST (2100 UTC), the eye of Hurricane Barbara was located near latitude 14.3 North, longitude 127.5 West. Barbara is moving toward the west-northwest near 12 mph (19 km/h). A motion toward the northwest is expected to begin later today and continue through Friday. Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 140 mph (220 km/h) with higher gusts. Barbara remains a category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Weakening is forecast, and Barbara is expected to weaken to a tropical storm on Friday. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles (75 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 185 miles (295 km). The estimated minimum central pressure is 941 mb (27.79 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- None.
