Interests in Hawaii should monitor the progress of Olivia this weekend and use this time to enact your hurricane action plan. DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 500 PM HST (0300 UTC), the center of Hurricane Olivia was located near latitude 21.8 North, longitude 140.8 West. Olivia is moving toward the west near 16 mph (26 km/h). This motion is expected to continue with some slowing in forward speed through Monday. A turn toward the west-southwest is expected by Tuesday. On the forecast track, Olivia will be near the main Hawaiian Islands later Tuesday. Maximum sustained winds are near 80 mph (130 km/h) with higher gusts. Little change in strength is forecast during the next 48 hours, with gradual weakening expected afterward. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 30 miles (45 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 115 miles (185 km). The estimated minimum central pressure is 985 mb (29.09 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- None.
