DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK
----------------------
At 1100 AM HST (2100 UTC), the center of Hurricane Miriam was
located near latitude 15.7 North, longitude 141.6 West. Miriam is
moving toward the north-northwest near 8 mph (13 km/h). A turn
toward the north is expected later today, with this motion
continuing into Saturday. A gradual turn back toward the northwest
is expected later Saturday and Sunday.
 
Maximum sustained winds are near 85 mph (140 km/h) with higher
gusts. Little change in strength is expected into Friday,
followed by fairly rapid weakening thereafter.
 
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90 miles
(150 km).
 
The estimated minimum central pressure is 982 mb (29.00 inches).
