DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 200 PM PDT (2100 UTC), the center of Hurricane Fernanda was
located near latitude 11.4 North, longitude 124.0 West. Fernanda is
moving toward the west near 13 mph (20 km/h).  A turn toward the
west-northwest is expected tonight, and that motion should continue
into early next week.

Maximum sustained winds are near 130 mph (215 km/h) with higher
gusts.  Fernanda is a category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson
Hurricane Wind Scale.  Some fluctuations in intensity are expected
during the next two days, but Fernanda is forecast to remain a
major hurricane into early next week.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 30 miles (45 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 80 miles
(130 km).

The estimated minimum central pressure is 955 mb (28.20 inches).
