SUMMARY OF 300 AM MDT...0900 UTC...INFORMATION ---------------------------------------------- LOCATION...18.4N 110.9W ABOUT 315 MI...510 KM SSW OF THE SOUTHERN TIP OF BAJA CALIFORNIA ABOUT 30 MI...45 KM SSE OF SOCORRO ISLAND MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS...40 MPH...65 KM/H PRESENT MOVEMENT...NW OR 315 DEGREES AT 7 MPH...11 KM/H MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE...1005 MB...29.68 INCHES WATCHES AND WARNINGS -------------------- There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect. DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 300 AM MDT (0900 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Kay was located near latitude 18.4 North, longitude 110.9 West. Kay is moving toward the northwest near 7 mph (11 km/h). A turn toward the north-northwest with a decrease in forward speed is expected to begin today. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts. No significant change in strength is forecast during the next day or so. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 60 miles (95 km) to the southeast of the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1005 mb (29.68 inches).
