DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 800 PM PDT (0300 UTC), the center of Hurricane Darby was located
near latitude 17.3 North, longitude 122.1 West.  Darby is moving
toward the west-northwest near 9 mph (15 km/h), and a gradual turn
toward the west is expected over the next 48 hours.

Maximum sustained winds remain near 105 mph (165 km/h) with higher
gusts.  A gradual weakening trend is likely to begin on Saturday.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 35 miles (55 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 115 miles
(185 km).

The estimated minimum central pressure is 972 mb (28.71 inches).
