DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 200 AM PDT (0900 UTC), the center of Hurricane Blas was located
near latitude 14.2 North, longitude 118.1 West.  Blas is moving
toward the west-northwest near 14 mph (22 km/h), and a motion toward
the west-northwest or west is expected for the next couple of days.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 100 mph (155 km/h)
with higher gusts.  Additional strengthening is expected, and Blas
is forecast to become a major hurricane later today.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 30 miles (45 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 150 miles
(240 km).

The estimated minimum central pressure is 978 mb (28.88 inches).
