SUMMARY OF 800 PM PDT...0300 UTC...INFORMATION ---------------------------------------------- LOCATION...15.0N 132.5W ABOUT 1525 MI...2450 KM E OF HILO HAWAII MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS...150 MPH...240 KM/H PRESENT MOVEMENT...WNW OR 290 DEGREES AT 16 MPH...26 KM/H MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE...936 MB...27.64 INCHES WATCHES AND WARNINGS -------------------- There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect. DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 800 PM PDT (0300 UTC), the center of Hurricane Jimena was located near latitude 15.0 North, longitude 132.5 West. Jimena is moving toward the west-northwest near 16 mph (26 km/h), and this general motion with a gradual decrease in forward speed is expected during the next couple of days. Maximum sustained winds are near 150 mph (240 km/h) with higher gusts. Jimena is a category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Only slow weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours. Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 40 miles (65 km) from the center and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 140 miles (220 km). The estimated minimum central pressure is 936 mb (27.64 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- None.
