SUMMARY OF 200 PM PDT...2100 UTC...INFORMATION ---------------------------------------------- LOCATION...15.6N 126.1W ABOUT 1170 MI...1880 KM WSW OF THE SOUTHERN TIP OF BAJA CALIFORNIA MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS...35 MPH...55 KM/H PRESENT MOVEMENT...WNW OR 285 DEGREES AT 16 MPH...26 KM/H MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE...1007 MB...29.74 INCHES WATCHES AND WARNINGS -------------------- There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect. DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ Satellite imagery and satellite-derived wind data indicate that a tropical depression has formed well to the west-southwest of the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula. At 200 PM PDT (2100 UTC), the center of Tropical Depression Eight-E was located near latitude 15.6 North, longitude 126.1 West. The depression is moving toward the west-northwest near 16 mph (26 km/h) and this general motion is expected to continue for the next 48 hours. Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph (55 km/h) with higher gusts. Slow strengthening is possible during the next 48 hours, and the depression could become a tropical storm by Tuesday. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1007 mb (29.74 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- None.
