 For the eastern North Pacific, east of 140 degrees west longitude:<br />
 <br />
 Five tropical cyclones formed in the month of August in the eastern <br />
 Pacific basin.  Two of them became hurricanes, and one (Linda) <br />
 became a major hurricane.  Of the August tropical cyclones, only <br />
 Nora affected land, and it made landfall along west-central Mexico <br />
 as a hurricane. <br />
 <br />
 The formation of five tropical cyclones, including two hurricanes, <br />
 is near the long-term average for August. The number of named storms <br />
 (14) in the basin so far in 2021 is above the long-term average <br />
 through August.  In terms of Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE), which <br />
 measures the strength and duration of tropical storms and <br />
 hurricanes, the season to date is near the past 30-year average. <br />
