DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK

At 500 AM EDT (0900 UTC), the center of Tropical Depression Chantal
was located near latitude 36.8 North, longitude 78.1 West. The
depression is moving toward the northeast near 15 mph (24 km/h) and
this motion is expected to continue.
Maximum sustained winds are near 30 mph (45 km/h) with higher gusts.
Little change in strength is forecast.
The estimated minimum central pressure is 1009 mb (29.80 inches).

RAINFALL: Tropical Depression Chantal will continue to produce heavy
rainfall across portions of Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, New
Jersey, and Pennsylvania today. Storm total rainfall of 2 to 4
inches, with local amounts up to 6 inches, is expected. An elevated
risk for flash flooding will continue.
