Monthly Tropical Weather Summary

For the eastern North Pacific, east of 140 degrees west longitude:

September was slightly above average in the eastern Pacific basin in
terms of the number of named storms (4), hurricanes (2), and major
hurricanes (2) that formed during the month.  One short-lived
tropical depression also formed in September.  Based on a 30-year
(1981-2010) climatology, three named storms typically form in the
eastern Pacific basin in September, with two of those becoming
hurricanes and one reaching major hurricane intensity.

In terms of Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE), which measures the
strength and duration of tropical storms and hurricanes, activity
in the basin thus far in 2018 has been above average.
