The following information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. Based on 0600 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 0930 UTC. ...SPECIAL FEATURES... Tropical Storm Hector is centered near 18.4N 132.0W at 28/0900 UTC, moving west-northwest at 10 kt. Estimated minimum central pressure is 1002 mb. Maximum sustained wind speed is 45 kt with gusts to 55 kt. Numerous moderate to isolated strong convection is sheared and NE of the storm center from 18N to 22N between 128W and 133W. Hector is moving toward the west-northwest and this motion with a turn more westward is anticipated over the next few days. Gradual weakening is anticipated during the next few days and Hector is forecast to become a remnant low on Thursday. A tropical wave is along 102W north of 07N to inland Mexico. The wave is moving westward at 10 kt. Scattered moderate isolated strong convection is from 08N to 18N between 96W and 110W. A second tropical wave is along 119W from 07N to 19N, moving westward at 10 kt. Scattered moderate isolated strong convection is ongoing from 08N to 12N between 112W and 128W. ...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... The monsoon trough extends from 09N85W to 11N108W to 08N128W. The ITCZ is analyzed from 08N128W to 10N140W. Aside from the convection associated with the tropical waves and T.S. Hector described above, scattered moderate to strong convection is from 10N to 16N between 87W and 96W. ...OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... A ridge remains in control of the weather pattern across the offshore forecast waters of Baja California producing gentle to moderate NW to N winds and moderate seas. Moderate to fresh N to NE winds prevail over the Tehuantepec region and downwind to about 13N102W, where seas are 4-5 ft. Gentle to moderate SE winds and seas of 1 to 3 ft are ongoing in the northern half of the Gulf of California. Elsewhere across the remainder of the Mexican offshore waters, light to gentle winds are noted with seas of 3 to 5 ft in mixed NW and SW swell. For the forecast, a ridge will continue to dominate the offshore forecast waters of Baja California supporting gentle to moderate winds and moderate seas. Gap winds will pulse to fresh speeds in the Tehuantepec region through this morning, then mainly gentle to moderate winds will prevail. In the Gulf of California, gentle southerly winds are expected with seas of 1 to 3 ft, with the exception of gentle to moderate SE to S in the northern part of the Gulf through tonight. Light to gentle winds and moderate seas are expected elsewhere. ...OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Light to gentle winds prevail across the area N of the monsoon trough, except for moderate NE winds in the Papagayo region. Gentle to moderate S to SW winds are noted south of the monsoon trough. Seas are 3 to 5 ft N of the monsoon trough and 5-6 ft between Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. For the forecast, moderate to fresh NE to E winds are expected in the Papagayo region today and Thu. Winds will be light to gentle elsewhere north of the monsoon trough, and gentle to moderate south of the monsoon trough, increasing to moderate to fresh speeds Thu through the weekend. The pressure gradient between the ridge and Tropical Storm Hector is supporting an area of gentle to moderate NE to E winds roughly N of 22N and W of 120W where seas are in the 5 to 7 ft range. Mainly moderate to locally fresh southerly winds are noted S of the monsoon trough. For the forecast, Hector will move to 18.5N 133.7W this afternoon, 18.6N 135.8W Thu morning, weaken to a remnant low near 18.6N 138.4W Thu afternoon, 18.5N 141.1W Fri morning, and dissipate Fri afternoon.
