112 AXPZ20 KNHC 250337 TWDEP Tropical Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 0405 UTC Tue Oct 25 2022 Tropical Weather Discussion for the eastern Pacific Ocean from 03.4S to 30N, east of 120W including the Gulf of California, and from the Equator to 30N, between 120W and 140W. The following information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. Based on 0000 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 0325 UTC. ...TROPICAL WAVES... A tropical wave has its axis along 106W, south of 17N, moving W at 10-15 kt. A few showers are noted near the trough axis. ...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... The monsoon trough extends from the coast of Costa Rica near 10N86W to 10N109W to a 1010 mb low pres near 13N131W to 11N137W. The ITCZ stretches from 11N137W to 10N140W and beyond. Scattered moderate convection is occurring from 11N to 15N and between 115W and 120W and from 10N to 14N and between 125W and 132W. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... High pressure north of the area dominates the offshore waters of Baja California, sustaining gentle to moderate northerly winds, except for locally fresh winds within 100 nm of the coast. Seas in these waters are 5-9 ft, with the highest seas occurring in the northwest portion of the offshore waters. An altimeter pass from a few hours ago captured seas up to 10 ft in those waters. In the northern Gulf of California, the pressure gradient between a building ridge over the western United States and a trough over northern Mexico, remnants of a cold front, result in moderate to occasionally strong northerly winds and seas of 4-6 ft. Gentle to moderate northerly winds and seas of 2-4 ft prevail in the rest of the Gulf. Elsewhere in the offshore waters of Mexico, light to locally moderate westerly winds and seas of 4-6 ft are prevalent. For the forecast, high pressure will dominate the offshore forecast waters of Baja California during the next several days, producing mainly gentle to moderate NW-N winds. Wave heights of 6-9 ft in northwest swell across the waters N of Punta Eugenia will subside to below 8 ft late tonight. The fresh to occasionally strong north winds in the northern Gulf of California will shift to the central part of the Gulf tonight, diminish to mainly fresh speeds early on Tue and become light and variable early on Wed. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Strong thunderstorms over Panama and NW Colombia spill into the nearby waters, while mainly tranquil weather conditions are found in the rest of the basin. Moderate to fresh southerly winds are observed south of the monsoon trough, along with seas of 4-6 ft. Light to gentle easterly winds and seas of 3-5 ft prevail elsewhere. For the forecast, moderate to fresh southerly winds and moderate seas will persist south of the monsoon trough through the remainder of the week. Light to occasionally moderate winds will occur in the Papagayo region during the forecast period. Additional pulses of long-period southwest swell will reach the waters between Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands by Thu increasing the wave heights slightly. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... A 1030 mb high pressure centered near 36N139W extends southward and dominates most of the eastern tropical Pacific. The pressure gradient between this ridge and lower pressures in the deep tropics sustains moderate to fresh easterly winds across most of the region. Seas of 6-9 ft are occurring N of the monsoon trough, with the highest seas found near 30N125W. An altimeter pass from a few hours ago indicated seas up to 8 ft near 23N136W. Farther south, moderate to fresh southerly winds are prevalent south of the monsoon trough. Seas in these waters are 5-7 ft. For the forecast, the long-period NW-N swell will gradually decay through Tue evening, allowing for the wave heights to subside below 8 ft. High pressure will be the main feature controlling the wind regime over the waters north of the monsoon trough and west of about 110W through at least Wed night. A new set of long- period northwest swell will bring wave heights of 8-9 ft to the northeast part of the remainder of the area waters beginning Wed afternoon. $$ DELGADO
