The following information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. Based on 1800 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 2000 UTC. ...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... The monsoon trough extends from 00N83W to 12N109W to low pres near 08N117W to 06N121W. The ITCZ continues from 06N121W to 05N140W. Scattered moderate convection is noted from 06N to 09N and E of 95W, and from 08N to 14N between 100W and 120W. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... Moderate to fresh NW winds prevail off the coast of Baja California. Fresh winds are noted over much of the Gulf of California as well as the Gulf of Tehuantepec. Light to gentle winds elsewhere over the open waters off Mexico. Seas are in the 4-7 ft range west of the Baja California, the Gulf of California and Gulf of Tehuantepec, and 4-5 ft elsewhere. For the forecast, moderate to fresh winds will persist off Baja California, Gulf of California, and the Gulf of Tehuantepec through tonight. NW swell of 8 ft will persist off Baja California through tonight also. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, and WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Gentle to moderate S to SW monsoon flow prevails south of the monsoon trough. Light to gentle winds prevail north of the monsoon trough, reaching moderate to fresh speeds in the Gulf of Papagayo. Seas are in the 4-6 ft range over the waters between Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands and 4-5 ft elsewhere. For the forecast, fresh gap winds will prevail across the Papagayo region and southern Nicaragua through Sat. Gentle to moderate winds will prevail elsewhere. Long-period southerly swell in the region will build slightly this weekend. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... High pressure prevails over the waters north of 10N and west of 110W. A persistent low pressure center is analyzed within the monsoon trough near 08N117W. Fresh to strong N to NW winds and 7 to 9 ft seas prevail north of the ITCZ and monsoon trough. Gentle to moderate SE winds and 5 to 7 ft seas are noted south of 10N and west of 110W. East of 110W, gentle to moderate winds are noted on either side of the monsoon trough with 4 to 6 ft seas. For the forecast, the area of high pressure will start to weaken into the weekend, allowing for winds and seas to diminish. The area of low pressure will drift westward within the monsoon trough with fresh to occasionally strong winds and seas of 8 to 9 ft. $$ ERA
