550 AXPZ20 KNHC 292159 TWDEP Tropical Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 2205 UTC Fri Apr 29 2022 Tropical Weather Discussion for the eastern Pacific Ocean from 03.4S to 30N, east of 120W including the Gulf of California, and from the Equator to 30N, between 120W and 140W. The following information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. Based on 1800 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 2145 UTC. ...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... A surface trough extends from low pressure of 1008 mb that is over the far southwestern Caribbean Sea to 08N83W to 08N95W to 08N110W to 07N124W, where latest scatterometer data indicates that it transitions to the ITCZ and continues to 07N132W and to beyond 07N140W. Scattered moderate to isolated strong convection is within 60 nm of 09N99W. Scattered moderate convection exists from 10N to 13N between 102W-109W, also within 120 nm south of the trough between 88W-90W and within 30 nm of the trough between 84W-87W. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO High pressure of 1029 mb centered north of the area is providing for moderate to fresh northwest to north winds across the waters west and southwest of the Baja California peninsula. Seas of 6-9 ft in northwest swell are over these waters. A recent altimeter data passes over this part of the area confirmed these sea heights. Gentle to moderate northwest to north winds are over the Gulf of California, except for gentle southwest to west winds over the northern part of the Gulf. Seas are in the 3-4 ft in the Gulf of California. except for slightly lower seas of 2-3 ft in the northern section of the Gulf. Gentle to moderate northwest to north winds along with seas of 4-6 ft are over the southern Mexican offshore waters, except for light and variable winds in the Gulf of Tehuantepec where seas are 4-6 ft due to a south to southwest swell. For the forecast, the moderate to fresh northwest to north winds will continue west of Baja California Norte through Sun night, and west and southwest of Baja California Sur through Sat afternoon. Winds will be at gentle to moderate speeds afterwards going into next week. Long-period moderate northwest swell will continue west of Baja California Norte through Mon, and Baja California Sur through Sun morning before gradually subsiding afterwards. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, and WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR Fresh northeast to east winds along with seas of 4-6 ft are offshore from the Papagayo region and southern Nicaragua. Gentle to moderate south to southwest winds along with seas of 5-7 ft are between the west of coast of Colombia and Galapagos Islands. Light to gentle winds and seas of 4-5 ft due to a south to southwest continue across the remainder of the offshore waters. For the forecast, the fresh northeast to east winds from offshore the Papagayo region to the southern Nicaragua will become gentle to moderate in speeds and veer around to the soutrheast to south late Sat afternoon. Long-period moderate south to southwest swell across the much of the region will subside to light by the middle of next week. REMAINDER OF THE AREA A tight pressure gradient between a 1029 mb high pressure located north of the area near 33N134W and lower pressure in the vicinity of the ITCZ is maintaining moderate to fresh northeast to east trades from north of the ITCZ to 26N and west of about 127W. Long-period primarily northwest to north swell over this area is maintaining seas of 7-9 ft. Gentle to moderate east to southeast winds along with seas of 5-7 ft due to a moderate long- period south to southwest swell are noted elsewhere, except in mixed swell west of 115W. For the forecast, the aforementioned north to north swell will begin to decay on Sun and through early next allowing for the 7-9 ft seas to diminish in coverage. Elsewhere, little change is expected with the swell and seas of 5-7 ft through the middle of next week. $$ Aguirre
