The following information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. Based on 0600 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 0700 UTC. ...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... A surface trough extends from the Colombia-Panama border near 06N77W to 05N95W to 04N108W. The ITCZ then continues to 06N125W to beyond 06N140W. Scattered moderate convection is noted from 01N to 06N between 83W to 96W. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO Strong N winds are occurring in the Gulf of Tehunatepec, with seas of 5 to 7 ft. Fresh SW winds prevail in the northern Gulf of California. Fresh winds also prevail offshore Baja California Norte, with seas of 8 to 12 ft in NW swell. Elsewhere across the waters, mainly gentle winds prevail along with wave heights of 4 to 6 ft. For the forecast, fresh to strong north winds in the Gulf of Tehunatepec will continue today, then diminish tonight. Elsewhere, mainly gentle winds will change little through Mon, with the exception of moderate northwest to north winds remaining offshore Cabo Corrientes. Fresh to strong northwest to north winds will continue through the weekend, along with NW swell. Wave heights of 8 to 10 ft will build southward, off Baja California Sur today. Fresh to strong southwest winds are expected in the northern Gulf of California tonight. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, and WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR Fresh to strong northeast to east winds are across the Papagayo region, with wave heights to 9 ft. Moderate to fresh north winds are in the Gulf of Panama, with wave heights of 4-6 ft. Mainly light to gentle winds are noted elsewhere, along with wave heights of 3-5 ft due to a south to southwest swell, with the exception of wave heights of up to 6 ft offshore of Ecuador. For the forecast, fresh to strong northeast winds in the Gulf of Papagayo region will continue today, diminish to fresh speeds through early Mon, then decrease further to gentle to moderate through Wed night. The moderate north winds in the Gulf of Panama will prevail today. Gentle winds will continue elsewhere. REMAINDER OF THE AREA A cold front in the Gulf of California has dissipated overnight, with winds behind it over much of the basin reducing to fresh out of the NE. Strong E winds N of 23N and W of 138W are associated with a trough west of the area. Seas N of the ITCZ are 8 to 11 ft. To the S of the ITCZ, mainly moderate trades prevail, with seas of 5 to 7 ft. For the forecast, NE winds will veer E and subside to moderate over most of the area, although the trough to the west will continue to support strong winds and higher seas N of 23N and W of 137W.
