000 AXPZ20 KNHC 270841 TWDEP Tropical Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 1005 UTC Mon Dec 27 2021 Tropical Weather Discussion for the eastern Pacific Ocean from 03.4S to 30N, east of 120W including the Gulf of California, and from the Equator to 30N, between 120W and 140W. The following information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. Based on 0600 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 0840 UTC. ...SPECIAL FEATURES... A 1008 mb low pressure is centered near 21N143W. Scattered moderate to isolated strong convection is east of the low from 16N to 25N between 125W and 140W. Gale- force winds are ongoing over the discussion waters NE of the low, from 22N to 25N and W of 138W. Seas over this area are peaking near 16 ft. Gale- force winds will diminish this morning. The pressure gradient between the low and high pressure north of the area is also supporting an area of strong to near gale- force winds in the northern semicircle of the low with seas 8 to 13 ft. The strong to near gale- force winds will prevail through early Tue morning, mainly north of 20N and west of 130W. The monsoon trough extends from 09N84W to 07N92W to 08N97W. The ITCZ continues from 08N97W to 09N127W. No significant convection is occurring in the vicinity of these features. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO A stationary front is over Baja California Norte. Moderate to locally fresh winds prevail west of the Baja California peninsula. Gentle to moderate winds are over the Gulf of California. Light to gentle winds are noted elsewhere. NW swell is producing seas in the 6-9 ft range west of Baja California Norte. Seas of 6-7 ft are noted west of Baja California Sur, with seas of 3-5 ft elsewhere over the open waters off Mexico. Over the Gulf of California, seas of 1-3 ft prevail. For the forecast, the stationary front over Baja California Norte will dissipate this morning. Another cold front will approach Baja California Norte on Tue, bringing strong SW winds to the northern Gulf of California Tue into Wed. NW swell will continue to impact the offshore waters off Baja California Norte through Tue before subsiding. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, and WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR Fresh to strong gap winds continue over the Gulf of Papagayo, with light to gentle winds elsewhere north of the monsoon trough. Moderate N winds are over the Gulf of Panama, with gentle to moderate winds over the remainder of the waters south of the monsoon trough. Seas are in the 5-6 ft range offshore the Gulf of Papagayo and 3-4 ft elsewhere. For the forecast, fresh to strong gap winds will prevail over the Papagayo region today before diminishing slightly. Light to gentle winds will occur elsewhere north of the monsoon trough. Moderate winds will prevail in the Gulf of Panama through Thu, with gentle to moderate winds elsewhere south of the monsoon trough. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... Outside of the conditions associated with the low pressure system described in the special features section, gentle to moderate winds are noted across the region. A set of NW swell continues across the region N of 15N and W of 120W with seas in the 8-11 ft range. Seas of 4-7 ft prevail elsewhere.
